May is Mental Health Awareness MonthPosted on
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In honor of this the C.H. Booth Library has put together a short video to help you learn more about mental health using MedlinePlus.
Mental health is a very important topic that is only recently gaining the attention it deserves. Though talking about mental illness is getting more normalized, the stigma is still there. Around 1 in 5 U.S. adults have been diagnosed with some form of mental illness as of 2020. As for young people, studies taking place in 2016 – 2019 estimate children aged 3-17 years that 9.4% will be diagnosed with anxiety and 4.4% for depression.
