Business and Career

The Cyrenius H. Booth Library has a Business and Career section located on the 3rd Floor in the Reference Department. The Business and Career section has materials in various formats to aid those looking to expand their career, grow their business and research business and industry for investments.

Business

The collection of business books includes Hoover’s, D&B Million Dollar Directory, Barron’s and many other publications. Also books for the small business owner on writing business plans, getting financial backing and growing your business.

 

Databases 

Reference USA – Search 14 million U.S. businesses and 1.5 million Canadian businesses, by name, type, size, location, etc. Residential database for 120 million households is searchable by name or address.

 

Business and Company Resource Center with Newsletters through iCONN.orgBusiness and Company Resource Center is a fully integrated resource bringing together company profiles, brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies and periodicals. The Newsletters ASAP database is fully integrated in this database. Search this database to find detailed company and industry news and information.

 

New York Times (1980 to current), Wall Street Journal (1984 to current), Washington Post (1987 to current) – free access to full-text articles online through www.iCONN.org with library barcode number.

 

A dedicated business and investment computer is located on the third floor of the library in the Business/Career area.

 

Career

The Career section includes Occupational Outlook Handbook, books on resume and cover letter writing, interviewing and career advancement.

 

Databases

LearningExpressLibrary.com – Free interactive practice exams including SAT, GED, ACT, Civil Service Exam, Cosmetology, EMS, Law Enforcement, Real Estate and more. Learning Express also has an online Resume Writer and Computer Software Tutorials. Learn or review these 2003 and 2007/2008 Microsoft Office programs (basic to advanced, PC and Mac) from home, work, or the library:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.  If you are new to computers, you will also find tutorials in Windows XP, Vista Business, and Mac OSX Leopard Desktop. Learn rapidly through fully interactive multimedia programs that include sound, animation, and visuals for easy learning.  The tutorials offer self-assessments, quizzes, hands-on practice lab simulations, and interactive video content for better understanding of material.

 

JobNow: Free database that offers live job search coaching in three sections, Write the Resume, Ace the Interview, and Links and Tips.

Investing

 

Morningstar Mutual Funds – Provides independent investment research on mutual funds in the United States and in major international markets.

 

Valueline Investment Survey: a greatly expanded database that now provides reports on over 3,500 companies and 13,000 mutual funds. New features include on-line screening tools, company news and market updates. For access to Valueline from home or outside of the library building click here, you will need to enter your 14-digit Newtown library card barcode number without spaces or hyphens, no password is needed.

 

NAIC Investor’s Toolkit software on the business computer is available for fundamental analysis of common stocks and portfolio management.
