Friends of the C.H. Booth Library 25 Main Street Newtown, CT 06470 203 270 4537 or 426 3889 To accomplish its mission to support the library’s collection, programs and technology needs, the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library always welcomes new volunteers. We offer the opportunity to spend hours each week in the company of good books and interesting people, all in the service of supporting your library.
Qualifications: We seek able adults with * A deep interest in books and reading; * Some knowledge of past and current authors; * Familiarity with the basic fiction and non-fiction categories of books; * Ability to alphabetize; * Computer literacy; * Dependability; and * A willingness to learn and be a team player.
To work in the sorting area, you must be able to pack and lift boxes weighing approximately 25 pounds.
Availability and Hours: The Friends of the C.H. Booth Library volunteers gather each Monday and Thursday morning throughout the year at the library.
Responsibilities: We will train you to Sort, price, and box sales inventory; Look up books on laptop computer and hand scanner to determine value; and Perform light housekeeping of sorting area.
Training and Orientation: Every prospective volunteer must successfully complete a three-week training period on-site under the supervision of an experienced volunteer.
Additional volunteer opportunities:
Membership – A volunteer is needed to manage and update the Friends membership Excel database, send dues reminder letters in the spring, and run membership drives as appropriate. Proficiency in Excel is required.
Internet Sales – Volunteers are needed to gather and price inventory for internet placement, prepare photos and write-ups, pack and mail purchased items, and perform other tasks associated with maintaining the BooksfromBooth storefront(s). Successful sorting room training and orientation is required.
Transportation and Storage – Volunteers are needed to pick-up donations locally and to transport book sale inventory from the library to the storage facility. Ability to lift heavy boxes and access to a pick-up truck, SUV or other appropriate vehicle is required.
