Handicap Access to the Library

Starting with Directions to the Library:


Map to LibraryFrom I-84: Take Exit 10 off of Interstate 84. Turn right at exit ramp if coming westbound, or turn left at exit ramp if coming eastbound. Follow Church Hill Road (also known as Route 6) into Newtown. Go straight at two traffic lights until you come to the flagpole in the middle of the road. This is the intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street. Turn left at the flagpole. The library is the third building on the right. There is street parking as well as parking in the back of the building. The main entrance is in back, off the parking lot. For handicapped parking turn right into driveway south of building.

 

From Bethel: Follow Route 302 east into Newtown. At the traffic light with Main Street (also known as Route 25) turn left. The library is on the left after the police station and before the flagpole. There is street parking as well as parking in the back of the building. For handicapped parking turn left into driveway south of building.

 

From Brookfield and Danbury: Follow Route 25 south into Newtown. You will come to the flagpole in the middle of the road. The library is the third building on the right. There is street parking as well as parking in the back of the building. For handicapped parking turn right into driveway south of building.

 

From Monroe: Follow Route 25 north into Newtown. The library is on the left after the police station and before the flagpole. There is street parking as well as parking in the back of the building. For handicapped parking turn left into driveway south of building.

 

 

Once you have parked in the Handicap Parking:

 

Follow the path to the sliding side doors for handicap access. Once inside there is a ramp up to the elevator that can take you to each floor of the library. The ground floor, Floor 1, is the Children's Department. The Main Floor or Floor 2 houses Adult Fiction & Mysteries, Audiovisual, Large Print, Periodicals Room, Genealogy, and Young Adult Department. The top floor or Floor 3 houses Nonfiction, Biography, Reference, Business, Education, Public Internet Computers, Art, Music, and Antiques collections.

 

Added Notes:

 

There is a Large Print Reader on the Main Floor.

 

There is a public internet computer with a Large Print keyboard on the top floor. This large print keyboard also has a keyboard guard as a typing aid for those patrons with hand tremors.

 

For hearing-impaired patrons, our Meeting Room has a hearing assistance system that includes individual headsets with receivers to amplify the sound from the room's speakers.
